I don’t know about you guys, but one of my favorite feelings is the feeling I get when I give someone a piece of advice and they actually do what I suggested. So when I noticed yesterday that Memebox had started carrying Enprani’s Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin, which I’d suggested to them a couple of weeks ago during a KIB chat, I had a moderate conniption.

This product was originally pretty far down in my review queue, but to celebrate the momentous occasion of someone actually listening to me, holy shit!, I’ve moved it up to the top.

What the golldang heck is a “Moistfull Booskin”?

Among the vast array of specialized skincare steps and products produced by the Korean cosmetics industry, boosting-type toners are among the most unfamiliar to Western consumers. Over here, we’re used to toners that strip away oils and dry out our skin (as if those were good things, HA! HA! HA! sobs).

Asian boosting toners do quite the opposite. Instead of removing moisture from the skin, they’re formulated to add an initial layer of hydration, softening the skin so that it can more fully absorb any subsequent layers of skincare. They also deliver their own blend of skin-beneficial ingredients. This commonly means antioxidant-rich plant extracts, brightening agents, or very mild enzyme or chemical exfoliants. And while products in this category are sometimes called toners, they just as often go by other names, like lotion, skin, and booster. (Don’t throw stuff at me. It’s not my fault shit’s so confusing.)

Now you see where I’m going with this.

The Booskin products in Enprani’s Dear by Enprani line are booster-type toners (“booster” + “skin”). And the “Moistfull” version that I’m reviewing here (and that I raved about some time ago) is the moisturizing entry in the line.

After I finished off that first sample, I had a hell of a time tracking down a full-sized bottle of the product in its original packaging. I was gifted a 65ml travel bottle of it by my sponsor BeautyKorea (not for review, as they don’t even carry it, but just because I whined to Janet about not being able to find the product anywhere). When that ran low, I finally bit the bullet and ordered one of the bottles in updated packaging from Korea. If only I’d known Memebox was about to start stocking it! If only I’d known. Cough cough give me a heads up next time Memebox cough cough.

Review: Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin

Purpose: Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin is a booster-type toner that hydrates skin, prepares it for optimal absorption of subsequent skincare products, and delivers antioxidants for preventative anti-aging.

Best suited for: All skin types, including skin with aging concerns.

Do not use if: You are sensitive to alcohol, fragrant oils, or anything else in the ingredients list.

When and how to use: Immediately after cleansing if you are not using actives, or as your first step after actives, shake a moderate amount of product onto hands and press gently into face until absorbed. Continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

Notable ingredients: Looking at the front end of the ingredients list, it’s easy to see where this product gets its claims of “Moistfull”-ness from. Moistfull Booskin is chock-full of humectants, including beta-glucan, an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant commonly derived from yeast. If you have sensitive skin, the fragrant plant oils in the second half of the ingredients list and the ethanol alcohol near the end do warrant extra caution, but I wouldn’t consider them outright deal-breakers unless you have a specific allergy or sensitivity, as they’re most likely only present in the most minute amounts.

Performance

The reason I had this review so far down in my queue was because I’ve been struggling since I started using this product to find something to say about it that Moi Sanom at 35th of May hadn’t already said in her Moistfull Booskin rave review. But I’ll give it a shot.

Like Moi, I rarely ever see enough of a point with toners (or enough entertainment value) to regularly use them. I don’t need a pH-adjusting toner because I’m all about the low pH cleanser life, and my simple, clean, dreadfully dull Hada Labo lotion tends to sit unused on the top shelf of the medicine cabinet in the second bathroom, only remembered when I want to boost a sheet mask or give my lips some extra oomph. I wouldn’t even have tried out the sample that started all of this if not for that 35th of May review. I’m glad I did.

Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin is a clear liquid, thicker and more viscous than pure water, with a distinctly slippy texture. It spreads smoothly over my face and pats in extremely quickly, and the fragrance that surrounds my face while I’m patting it in is divine. The fragrance makes me wish I were more of a fragrance person, so that I could identify the notes that give it that magic. It’s a soft floral(?) smell, old-fashioned without being grandmalike at all,  It smells like roses in a soft, sophisticated and feminine and vintage-y way. I don’t usually like perfume or these sorts of smells in my skincare, but I find myself rubbing the Moistfull Booskin all over my hands just to enjoy the fragrance. If the fragrance didn’t fade so quickly, I’d wear the stuff as perfume.

With that being said, the fragrance is most definitely there, so if you dislike fragranced skincare products, this one is not for you. On the other hand, that beautiful fragrance does dissipate very quickly too quickly and doesn’t meddle with the fragrances of any of my other skincare products.

When I use Moistfull Booskin, which I do every morning and night, the effects on my skin are immediate and addictive. My skin is already pretty soft, but patting in a layer of this takes it to the next level. In seconds, my skin gets velvety and supple. And once I’ve patted in my Booskin, I’m perfectly prepped to handle however many layers of skincare I choose to put on top. Something about this product helps my skin drink up all of my essences, serums, and ampoules like nothing else I’ve ever seen. Every product absorbs faster and more fully, with less residue left on the surface and less waiting time in between steps. I’ve tried using Moistfull Booskin on half my face and no toner on the other half to compare, and the difference is noticeable. I’ve also tried Moistfull Booskin on half of my face and Hada Labo lotion on the other half. When I do that, I find that the a comparable amount of Hada Labo Gokujyun Moist Lotion takes longer to pat in, leaves more stickiness behind, and doesn’t have quite the same absorption-boosting powers as the Moistfull Booskin, although Hada Labo is still more helpful than no toner at all.

And of course I busted out my digital skin analyzer for a few tests of the Moistfull Booskin’s ability to “moist” up my skin. On average, an application of Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin raises my skin’s hydration levels by about 24%: about one or two percentage points less than Hada Labo lotion but several points more than the Scinic and Shara Shara All In One Ampoules. For something that’s meant to be used as simply a first step, I find the Moistfull Booskin’s numbers stellar.

After using my 65ml travel bottle for a month, I’ve finally cracked open my first full sized bottle of Moistfull Booskin. The bottle I bought is in redesigned packaging (which is what Memebox now carries), and at first I worried that the product would be different. It’s been a few days now. I’ve compared what’s left of my travel bottle to what comes out of my new bottle and feel very confident that the products are, if not exactly the same, only negligibly different. Which means that I am beyond overjoyed to get my hands on future bottles of it so easily from Memebox! Moistfull Booskin has been a little elusive in recent months. The fact that it isn’t anymore is friggin’ fantastic news.

Conclusion: If you absolutely don’t like or can’t use products with alcohol or fragrance in them in any amounts, then Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin is not for you. But if you’re open to a product like Moistfull Booskin and want a toner that will give just-cleansed skin a softening splash of hydration and that will help your skin suck in all your skincare goodies like a sandbar in the tide, Moistfull Booskin is worth a shot.

Rating: 4.5/5

Rating scale:

1 – This should be taken off the market.
2 – Caused me some problems; would not buy again.
3 – Meh. Neither great nor bad.
4 – Pretty good. Would buy again unless I find something better.
5 – I’ll never be in the market for a replacement unless this one is discontinued.

As a final note, I’ve also tried the Softfull Booskin (which Memebox does not carry. Yet.) Geared more towards oily and combo skin, the Softfull Booskin provides the same skin-softening and absorption-enhancing effects as the Moistfull but is thinner, more watery, and slightly less moisturizing. It also offers more oil control. Just so you know.

June 4 2016 update: I still reach for this product and have lately been using it morning and night again–and I still love it!

I’m down to about half of the bottle now and sorely tempted to pick up a backup in case it goes through one of its periods of being impossible to find when I’m ready to restock.

    1. I am going to guess that it’s primarily due to the hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate attracting water molecules, and maybe a little bit to the alcohol assisting in evaporation.

      And it is awesome! My morning routine goes by so fast!

    1. Once the rest of my routine on, I don’t experience any significant drop in hydration levels during the day unless I’ve had to use Biore Perfect Milk sunscreen :p

  4. I tried the Softfull Booskin, and that initial fragrance was like walking by a perfume counter at a department store. Did. Not. Like. At. All. I ended up giving it away specifically because of the heavy whack of fragrance on initial pat in. It did dissipate quickly however, just not quickly enough for me.

  5. No Softfull! *sadface* But hrm, I would totally give the Moistfull a try because it’s getting into wintery weather up here! I’m also curious about the Tone Up. It’s supposed to brighten? Nourish? The witch hazel in the Tone Up might be good for *troubles*.

  7. Girl, can I just say – I *love* your style of writing. Makes it seem like I’m hearing an old friend rant about skincare, and who doesn’t love that??

    I wish I had read this a couple weeks ago! I’m just now venturing into the AB skincare scene and I just got the Hada Labo lotion in the mail today xD I’ll definitely have to try this though, if you’re giving it such rave reviews!

    (Speaking of reviews – I was selfishly wondering if you could be open to implementing a new tag that states what star rating you give to products? I’d LOVE to be able to look through your HGs and fave products easily! (kind of like what Temptalia does)

  9. I’m surprised Memebox didn’t say that they actually used to stock these last year! In the heyday of international memeboxing they had the whole range of these and the Cheese creams …it does look like the packaging of these has changed though which may explain the temporary disappearance. I loved the cheese cream so may have to order some of this when I get the funds together to do a mail box order from Meme (the only way to get stuff sent to the UK now 😦 )

        May I ask you 2 questions: does this product make the Hada Labo Gokujyun redundant?
        I also dont understand exactly the science behind lotions aiding the following skin cares to penetrate better 😦
        I can only say that my redness around my nose are appeased overtime, since I took the habit to wet my face with AB mist and pat in some Gokujyun. It feels fantastic, my skin looks better than ever since I switched to Korean routine!
        Would you mind to share your knowledge?
        PS: the Enprani Cheese Cream is absolutely delightful xxx I liked it so much that I wrote my experience in Korea Depart website (under the username “Darkawaii”). Yep!

  12. There seems to be a bit of confusion about the ingredients. I bought the Booskin some months ago with the older packaging and I managed to translate the INCI more or less (you could find my translation on a german blog). I compared my list on the package with the INCI on the korean website of Enprani enpranishop.com – and there is still the list which I translated some months ago with about 40 ingredients, at the end of the site. And they still emphasize Witch Hazel and Rose of Jericho as important ingredients which I found both in my list but which are lacking in yours … I really like the INCI memebox gave to you but I’m afraid they could belong to another product

    1. I have about half the bottle left and have taken about a four week break from it while testing the (now upgraded, sigh) Klairs toner. It should last for many months! I use a lot at a time, too.

  20. Hi fiddy! I’m interested in trying this to help my other products absorb better. Even minimal moisturizing products leave me feeling sticky for a long time after applying while my skin still seems dry. I use Missha FTE as my toner step and am considering switching to this moist full booskin. Any other tips for enhancing product absorption?

    1. Ahahaha I can do the Shara Shara vs Scinic real quick right here, since the reason I never reviewed them is because they are not that much different from the two I did review (the Scinic snail and aqua AIOs) and even the Scinic Iceland Water isn’t that different either! Nor the berry.

      Basically they’re all very similar liquid gel type products that contain hydrating, brightening, and antioxidant ingredients. The Shara Shara and Scinic Honey AIOs are somewhat more moisturizing than the snail and aquas. Between Scinic and Shara Shara, if you’re looking for the one that’s more hydrating and moisturizing, I would say that is the Scinic, but if you’re looking for one that has a stronger and faster brightening effect, the Shara Shara will be more your style. My one tip with these is not to pay $40 for them from US retailers. They’re literally half that price on the Korean sites. The only reason to get them from a US site when they’re so overpriced is if you need them super fast.

      The only AIO Ampoule that is more moisturizing than the honeys is the Shara Shara Berry Bomb and that one is so sticky that I found it almost impossible to use comfortably.

      Oh I don’t use these as all in one/multipurpose products either. It’s possible (I have used the Shara Shara as a sleeping pack before and it’s fine) but generally I think they just fit in the basic serum/ampoule step. Your skin type may be different than mine and in need of fewer layers though.

  22. Wow… Thank you so much for the very concise reviews. I recently tried I’m from Honey Mask.. & OMG, It is soo good! Because of that I’m looking for other honey based skincare, & LJH honey ampoule, shara shara & scinic one caught my attention. My skin is very acne prone, sensitive & dry (thanks to many years I was on harsh acne topicals & previously also on oral tretinioin).

    I ordered scinic AIO, from Korea beauty box together with Dear Emprani, Beauty of Joseon Cream & Cosrx BHA liquid…their price are pretty competitive I would say, but the shipping was 25 dollars T T.. Anyway I just made the purchase, hope the delivery don’t take too long.

I have a newer version with a different bottle than yours but there are no ingredients in english. Do you know where I could find that information? thank you very much

  25. This sounds dreamy; I added it to my cart for when my next purchasing round happens. I have the most dehydrated skin and it actually felt slighter tighter when I read this. (My enabling skin shouldn’t be allowed to see the screen when I read reviews, but I can only wear so many face masks to cover it in a day!!)

I reviewed the Hada Labo Premium Lotion on this blog; you should be able to find it if you go to the Hada Labo category in the dropdown menu on the right sidebar or search in the search bar 🙂 I love both of them, though they’re not too similar. The Hada Labo is more immediately plumping and hydrating but doesn’t have quite the same “suck all the products applied afterwards into the skin super fast” ability; I really love the scent of Moistfull Booskin too, so that makes it very enjoyable for me to use. I sometimes use them both in one routine!

    1. Mmmm not exactly. Booskin I see as a pretty traditional toner that will soften, hydrate, and boost product absorption (and I still love it!) while the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum does some of that but is more worth it for its more substantial effect on my skin. Booskin is the better just as a toner product. They could both fit into a routine together without being redundant!

  28. I purchased the full size Moistfull Booskin first, then found the cutest set with travel sizes of the Softfull Booskin plus two of the creams (Bounce and Tone Up). My oily, dehydrated, stupidly sensitive skin LOVES the Moistfull Boo Skin. No irritation at all. In fact, it feels soooo soothing and makes my skin feel cooler and softer, which is nice when rosacea has my cheeks hot and red.

  32. Hi fiddysnails, thanks for this post. How do you think this compares with Laneige skin refiner moisture? Both contain glycereth-26 and beta glucan so I’m hoping they are similar in texture and skin absorption. Laneige is also viscous and fast absorbing on my skin but it lacks the botanical extracts in Booskin sadly and it has alcohol. Too bad booskin is discontinued before I even had the chance to try it.
