Quickie Body Review: Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel, Plus a Discount Code for You

I really, really, really don’t like putting body lotion on. Almost all of my motivational vanity is reserved for my face, and so are almost all of my fun and exciting products. I know I’m not the only one, either. I’ve talked about this more than once with my fellow skincare enthusiasts and beauty blogger homegirls, and the consensus is always that no one enjoys the body moisturizer chore. In fact, I had to make a new post category just for this review. I never expected to feel strongly enough about any body product to want to write about it.

Unsurprisingly, what changed all that was snails.

Tony Moly snail gel review
90% pure eco snail is a very respectable percentage for pure eco snail, I think.

Purpose: Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel is a gel moisturizer that’s very suitable for the body.

Best suited for: All skin types. May not be suitable for use as a personal lubricant due to the alcohol and fragrance.

Do not use if: Areas of your body where you intend to use this product are sensitive to alcohol denat., citrus extracts, castor oil, fragrance, or anything else in the ingredients list.

When and how to use: After showering or whenever skin feels dry, open up the tub, scoop out some product, and slather on.

Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel ingredients:  Snail secretion filtrate (90%), alcohol denat., glycerin, citrus unshiu fruit extract, citrus unshiu pericarp extract, citrus unshiu peel extract, bacillus/citrus unshiu peel extract ferment filtrate, sodium carbomer, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, carbomer, tromethamine, sodium polyacrylate, citric acid, water, styrene/acrylates copolymer, coco-glucoside, benzoic acid, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, chlorphenesin, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, fragrance

CosDNA analysis

Notable ingredients: You can tell from both the ingredients list and the texture of the product that the Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel is all about the snail goo. Without turning this review into yet another Fiddy Snails lecture on the potential benefits of purified snail slime for human skin, I’ll just say that snail slime is known to be rich in humectants, emollients, peptides, proteins, antioxidants, and all manner of skin-friendly components. The research so far demonstrates its promise as a skincare ingredient, especially for wound healing and photodamage repair. I’ve been using snail products for nearly two years now, long enough to know that I always want some snail in my skincare routine. There’s nothing like it for keeping my skin in top condition, and the more the better. 90% isn’t even the highest concentration I’ve got in my current collection.

Performance

90% is pretty damn high, though. You can definitely feel it in the thick, slick, smooth gel. The Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel goes on light and disappears quickly into my skin, leaving it silky, hydrated, and subtly glowy, without any of the stickiness or suffocating residue that I get from many other body lotions and creams. Clean and detergenty, the fragrance is inoffensive but fairly strong, which is the only reason I wouldn’t be eager to put this on my face as well as my body. If you’re sensitive to perfumes, exercise caution with this stuff. The smell doesn’t bother me but is noticeable enough that I know it might be too strong for at least some people.

Review of Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel
I go through these tubs fast because I’m not the only one in the house who likes a good dose of snail at the end of the day.

When I first started using the product, I was worried that the alcohol content, which helps it dry down fast, would irritate my skin, or that the gel just wouldn’t be enough to get me through an entire night and day. For once, my worries didn’t come true. My body stays comfortably moisturized all through the night and the next day. If your body skin is especially dry or you have concerns about the alcohol, just test the gel first on a small patch of skin. Don’t write the product off altogether. It’s exceeded all my expectations for a body product.

Conclusion: I’ve loved snail mucin since the very beginning of my K-beauty journey, but I never thought I’d be able to smear it with wild abandon all over my body. The generous quantity and affordable price of the Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel has made that impossible-seeming dream come true. And guess what? I have a Memebox discount code that will make it even easier for you to live the dream, too.

Rating: 4/5

Rating scale:

1 – This should be taken off the market.
2 – Caused me some problems; would not buy again.
3 – Meh. Neither great nor bad.
4 – Pretty good. Would buy again unless I find something better.
5 – I’ll never be in the market for a replacement unless this one is discontinued.

Where can I buy Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel, and what did you say about a discount code?

Even though it’s fairly simple and basic, Tony Moly Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel has been a game changer for me. It’s turned a tiresome chore into a skincare ritual as fun as all my face care steps. I really want you guys to try this snail gel out too, so I called in a KIB favor and had a coupon code made for Fifty Shades of Snail readers. 300ml of Pure Eco Snail Moisture Gel sells for $8 at Memebox US, but if you use the code FIDDYSCHOICE at checkout, you’ll get 25% off of each tub!

What’s your favorite body moisturizer and why is it not as awesome as a giant tub of snail gel?

  1. Nice to see you have recruited your household, hehe. I’m so glad you reviewed this! When I first saw this at Tony Moly, the salesperson told me it’s the normal-to-dry counterpart of their Wonder Water tub, which I love. Good to know this is a snailgodsend for the body. Goodness knows we need to pay attention to our wonderful, boring bodies.

(Also, thanks for the “personal lubricant” note up there. I didn’t know that I needed it…) 😛

  2. See, as a black woman there’s no way I can leave the house without slathering a thick body butter or Vaseline all over my body or I end up looking like I was walking in flour. This stuff sounds interesting, except for the alcohol content, because that just sounds drying to me. Thin, runny lotions never work for me and, even though this is thick I would still probably have to put some Vaseline over it to seal in the moisture and make sure I don’t get ashy, but at that price I’m willing to try it for science.

    1. Oh, if you do try it, I really want to hear your perspective about it please! And if you end up having a lot of thoughts about it, I would be so happy to host a guest blog post from you or link to a review on your blog 🙂

    2. I am an african american and I started my korean skincare journey about a month ago. My face is (was) oily and body dry, dry, dry. I have suffered with very painful pimples & hormonal breakouts for a long time. Over the past month my skin (face) in the best condition it has been in YEARS. Clear, no breakouts, radiant, and it is no longer an oil slick! It took a bit of research to pick the right combo of products, but they are getting skincare RIGHT over there in Korea <3. I have the Tony Moly Snail Gel in route to me, so I am hoping for the same wonderful results for my body as well…as I hate Vaseline with a passion! BTW I love your blog…very helpful and informative!

  3. Yay! So happy this is actually effective, the price made me skeptical given the percentage of snail mucin. This makes me regret not picking it up from the actual store, but ordering it online! I can apply it on my face though, right?

    1. Yeah, I don’t see why not unless your face is more sensitive to alcohol or fragrance! Wouldn’t it be great to have just one tub of stuff for all over?

  4. Oh LOL. I use body lotion every day. Twice a day! I’ve actually started upping my body lotion game up because I’d just buy the cheapy stuff. But my body is a wonderland and deserves more damnit!

  5. Would this be okay to use on the face followed by oils as moisturizers? Or would the alcohol in this disrupt my oil absorption and benefits?
